Happy Thanksgiving! As I've been dweling on what I'm thankful for (and I begin what will be a busy, but hopefully blogging filled Thanksgiving Day 2004), I came to a category of bright spots in my life that I should acknowledge, but one that wouldn't go over all that well at today's dinner...
Thanks to the IT services and software that make it possible to blog and the short list of bloggers that have and do contribute to my vision of what's possible to communicate via blogs.
Some of the IT services that I use and am thankful for include Radio Userland and Movable Type, for the content management systems, builty for blogging, that I use on my various blogs. For enabling the visable, photographic part of my blogs, I'm thankful for Flickr and Webshots and TextAmerica. For the audio portion of our blogs, which I hope to great expand in the future, thanks to Audioblog and Apple. For providing a central place to read and share news feeds that inform and impact me, I'm thankful for Bloglines and Amphetadesk. For the hosting the web servers and blog URLs where the words, files, photos, audio for my blogs are available to world, I'm thankful for Westhost, GoDaddy, and the newly promissing Streamload.
And while I don't get around the blogosphere much these days, when I do it's usually in a path trailblazed by the same bloggers who continue to inspire and influence my own blogging, as they have since the beginning. I'm thankful for Dave Winer's Scripting News, for originally showing me this great way to unleash my thoughts and emotions in a way that could be shared with others. I'm thankful for Doc Searls Weblog and the humanity, passion, and humor Doc expresses there, giving me a goal to reach for blending a New, digitally-enhanced, communication with the reality that it must involve the people around and in my life for it to really make a difference (and have a Clue). And I'm also thankful for the many bloggers that Dave and Doc point to and experience everyday, which I wish I could blog more about, but nevertheless add immense seasoning and inspiration to my life and what it's possible to communicate about it.
I've a long way to go to get to where I want to be as far as my blogging and on-line presence go, but these services and people are helping me realize some of it, step by step. Thanks to you all and Happy Thanksgiving!
